i currently have 43,464 def
and i get my ass kicked daily

then i was thinking what would be like a possible limit for a free players def

so i figured
500 m4a1
500 chain whips
500 full combat gear
500 police armour truck =
43,500

i mean you would be able to get passed that but not by much since its diffcult getting that much stuff anyway.

can a free player really compete fairly with the gold players?

i mean even with the best free items in the whole game still wouldnt match up defense wise.

attack wise it would probably be like

500 rpg
500 chain whips
500 full combat gear
500 excelro =
38,300

When you ask if a free player can compete with a gold player, that is what is known as a rhetorical question, right?

Unless the free player is really smart and the gold player is really stupid?

You're discounting explosives, which for correctness should also be included:

Attack: 500x Sarin = 15,000
Defence: 500x Land Mine = 12,500

Your revised figure are then:
Attack: 53,300, Defence: 56,000

By any measure those would be considered pretty decent stats for any player, never mind a non-gold player.

EDIT: Also, I wanted to say don't assume that every gold player has kitted out his entire mafia with gold weapons...there may be a tiny handful of those very high cash outlay CC players at most given the required expense.

However, the big cash players are far outweighed by the number of players that have spent lesser (but in many cases non-trivial amounts of cash) but their overall stats still really, really suck! You should be laughing at those players, or more to the point kicking their posteriors lol! :p It's pretty obvious that gold weapons can only complement and enhance a solid inventory based on free (mostly RP) weapons, extreme spenders being the rare exception.

Apple, I didn't realize that you could use 1000 explosives?? So you just have to buy 500 DEF only and 500 ATK only?

I'm pretty sure that I'm probably reading it incorrectly, just have to be sure.

500 if attacking, 500 if defending.

Maybe I should start using explosives.

But for the player with a poor economy, is it better to put the money into the economy or into explosives?

If its poor than work on economy first.

Like CounterSniper said - you can deploy 500 of each type depending on whether you're attacking or defending.

I just went the cheap route. I bought 500 time bombs. They cost $250 each, so to outfit your whole mafia it's only $125000. For that you get +1000 ATK and +1000 DEF. I also keep a 100 explosive "pad" but it's still cheap for the gain I think.

Right...explosives should be absolutely the last wepaon type you purchase due to the fact that they are consumable. So, you need a decent economy that doesn't impact upon your ongoing build/upgrade needs but will in addition throw of enough spare cash to allow you to keep refreshing supplies as required...otherwise the explosives benefit will only be transitory.

I also recommend pyramding up with explosives, i.e. start with outfitting your entire mafia with the cheapos and buy the more expensive ones as you can afford them. All IMHO...YMMV.

Good plan! I don't think you should just stop with the cheapos though...see my post below for my additional thoughts.

Duder's thread about this is good, he takes a lot into account such as goal rewards.

I think your math on the attack is wrong.

Atk

500 rpg - 36
500 chain whips- 25
500 full combat gear - 17
500 excelro - 31

36 x 500 = 18,000
25 x 500 = 12,500
17 x 500 = 8,500
31 x 500 = 15,500

=54,500 atk (not 38,300)

Well, at the end of the day, not really, but is that the point? I think of it like the 24 Hours of Lemans. There are the Audi Factory teams in the fastest classes sharing the track with little Porsche guys in 911 derivatives. Same track, different game.

Besides, who really wins in this game anyway? People are always playing like they have to win and life isn't fair, but what even determines the winner? It's a never ending battle with no start date, no end date, and no firm definitions of what winning really is.

Just don't worry about it and have fun.

If they buy $000's of gold and aren't stupid ( I have come accross higher level players who have spent $1000+ on items but have stats 10k lower than the avarage player their level) they will always win but you just ignore these people, if they are so bad they need to buy their stats to win that is their problem, I generally just laugh at them and move on if you try to compete you will just end up blowing your money and regretting it latter, plus if you buy your stats I really can't see the point of the game since gold items makes respect + money pointless.

My goal is to get the best stats possible with out a single gold item...which is getting tough since i have 2033 gold left and only palm hotels left to buy that don't add to stats and those gold 8 balls are tempting

I come across these people all the time. Even in the 70s they may have under 2,000 attack and less than 3,000 real defense yet the first 2 pages of their inventory are gold items.

I'm in the 90's and just had a guy attack me yesterday with similar differences in stats to your situation. -2500Attack/-2000 Defense. He lost a boatload when he attacked because he was carrying around 750K, I then pounced right away and ran him for a few hundred K before he could get it banked. He spams my wall about me being an a$$hole and then asks how I can beat him when he has so many gold weapons and I have none. So there are def players out there in upper levels that still have no idea how to play the game properly or what the stats mean. I have since hit him 2 more times and taken close to another half mil. Dude hasn't learned that you need the bank when your stats are junk.

"This is some BS. I have so many gold weapons"

There was a piece of information that was posted originally on Mickey Two-Toes' guide to the effect that if you're going to spend rl cash, you get more bang for your buck on the less expensive equips (e.g. wasteland pistol). The real motivation behind trying to get a thread with all the top end equips was to be able to begin doing some analysis on the true value of gold bars and (likely) prove that statement wrong. If you're going to buy a gold equip that ultimately become obsolete - there is not much value there. But since gold equips increase in cost exponentially with regards to their stats, you won't get value out of buying the most expensive equips. I wanted to find the middle ground where you aren't throwing gold away on replaceable equips or throwing gold away buying 1 really awesome but inordinately expensive item.

well at lvl 178 im 35520 def with 33002 att. and basically it's impossible to get 500 gears...but 500 chain whips are manageable. compared with gold players around my lvl, im far inferior, just saying. it's impossible to compete with gold players at high lvls coz they are both experienced and strong

Not to mention by end game gold players know how to play too so anything you can get for free so can they then put their gold items on top

exactly. and the scary thing is now all the low lvl players are equipped with 500 M4A1...which means when they hit lvl 150+, they will become pretty damn invincible to me lol

Absolutely no chance. Even where I am at lvl 127, there are just too many gold players who have stats that I, a pure non-gold player, can ever hope to surpass. Even with 1,000,000 respect points, $150k/hr income, a non-gold player can at best reach Att/Def max 35k/35k. Add on max explosives and loot, 42k/42k thereabouts is possible but not much more.
