View Full Version : Best value for money units - strategy

Assume that you are level 20 with 100 allies so you can have 300 units in battle. You currently only have about 100 units. What's the best way to spend $1000 to maximise A/D? This is my logic -- you could buy, say, 9 Monks (cost $110, attack/defence = 3/6) or 100 foot soldiers (cost $10, A/D = 1/1). Assuming either way that you have adequate weapons and armour from farming, which is the better deal?

Does the monk purchase give you nine times 3/6 for a total boost in attack/defence of 27/54 and the foot soldier deal give you 100/100? If so, it would seem to be much better to purchase cheaper units while your ally count exceeds your unit count. Also, in battle, you might lose a few foot soldiers but not 11 in one go, whereas losing one monk is a loss of $110 in one shot. Is my reasoning correct?

Your math looks right to me. Personally, I'd buy the lower level units until I reached 300 units so my A/D stats would fill up quickly. Then, I'd start upgrading when I had the cash.

You are in a very rough situation. You are 200 units below your cap and you only have 1000 gold? Yikes, what a disaster. Your best best is the cheapest defensive units. Heck I'm around your level with only 50 allies and I probably triple your attack/defense score.

To recover, you absolutely want to buy the cheapest units you can get until you get close to max. Then you probably want to stock up on illusionists until your defense is high enough to keep you safe. Then you want to either grab a bunch of battering rams so you can attack again, or get colloseum level 3 to buy the 6/14 riflemen.

Best way to go is to attempt to equip yourself with max units, then your stats boost from the units + the wep/armor they use. When you have more money, then you can little by little buy those more elite units.

I would lower my ally count untill you can afford to be fully stocked, being 200 under your cap is probably making you the weakest person on your rivals list

Thanks for the concern. I was only using those numbers as an example -- my actual situation is not nearly so "dire" :). And it's no big deal really -- in doing lots of quests early I levelled up without caring too much about A/D strategy. Now, as you suggested, I get do attacked by rivals pretty regularly but I lose almost nothing because all of my cash is either in the process of being spent, or in the vault. Since it costs noting to rebuild unit buildings and I only lose a little from money buildings... meh. So my plan now is to turtle for a while, building up resources without levelling up.

Interesting thought about the end game -- eventually, because of the cap on allies, will everyone will end up bunched around the same A/D except for those who have paid actual cash for the better units?

Everyone around level 50 the majority has 8-9K defense and attack but there are weaklings with less. I have 10K and 13K, people with gems are 14K+ both.

Seems like the new wave of people getting to level 50 is going to have a really hard time keeping up with the already established players. I think ill have to sit back under level 40 for some time :/

This is where it becomes a battle of economies. The best weapons I can see now (level 15) is a 8/14 which cost 8800 gold, and the best armor is also 8/14 at 8800 gold. At high levels, I have seen average income at about $3000/h. So, at the end game, it would take (8800+8800)/3000=5 hours just to equip 1 unit with the best outfit! and these equipments are available at level 28...so I am sure those available at level 50 will be far, far more expensive. So in the end game, the winner should be the one with the largest economy. The wealthiest shall master the realm!

Implications: build a super power economy early on, unless you intend to spend real money.

Ghost, 2 questions.......What are you paying for land expansions?
What is the max of the vault? I'm 8300 waiting on 11 to finish.

The best weapons are loot vs purchase.

Typically the 40+ level people have 25/13 (weapon) and 15/25 (armor). This is where Ghost sits (and a couple of others Ive seen on my allies list.)

These are only slightly better than the 20/9 + 11/19 stuff you can get from Owlbear Hollow.

I will agree with you on this one. Until they extend the levels, it is too dangerous above level 40 I think!

Jumping in here, the max vault is $330k gold and on a back to back vault increase basis, will take about 80ish days to get there from starting the game!

So do the higher lvl players use mostly machine units? They seem to have the highest non gold stats

They use whatever they can afford, it really depends on their economy, some buy single units of the strongest ones, some buy mass cheap, some buy a mix of both.

The Machine units seem like an incredible bargain. I leveled up my Siege Workshop so i could get Catapults for attack (14/5 for $450) and Zeppelins for defense (7/17 for $750).

I bought a few of each, but I didn't like my loss rate. So now I've backfilled with Battering Rams (8/1 for $110). $110 is so cheap I kept buying those until they became the lowest attack item I bring into fights. That means my Zeppelins don't go into battle during attacks, and so I don't risk losing them.

For weapons, I load up on the 2/0 swords for $16 AND a 1/3 Gloom Scorcher ($32) for each unit, and for armor I buy the 1/5 for $160 if I can afford it, and the 1/3 for $32 if I'm not feeling flush at the moment.

I'm only level 20 still, so I'll have to see how this scales at higher levels, but currently I have twice the attack score of the defense of almost all the folks I see on my rivals list. The only drawback of an all-Machine army is that the battle animations are really boring. :)

Wow, we have the same strategy except I'm not their yet. I'm still using the Illusionist for defense and Battering Ram for offense. My priority right now is to upgrade $ building and buy the best available weapons and armors since those are basically indestructible.

How often does a catapults die in battle?

For my level (30) and onwards, I did some spreadsheet calcs. I took into account gold per attack, gold per defense, combined a bunch of different atk/def to see if it's better efficiency-wise to get specialists in off/def, or average in both. I also accounted for building level required to get them. I also put in a factor that helps give higher off/def units priority since they won't get replaced as I level up. I also added in casualty numbers.

Here is what I feel is the best route:

1) Battering Rams/Illusionists or Gladiators (6/9), with Water elemental for honor (slightly more cost-efficient than worms). Rams/illusionists are better, but it's fairly close, and going Gladiators you could skip machine shop entirely.

2) Upgrade Colloseum to get Riflemen (6/14), and no further.

3) Upgrade beast warren to get to werewolves for your honor unit, granting access to imps on the way. Don't get too many imps, they'll be replaced quickly and die a lot.

4) At level 30, get a spire, and you can buy a few of the level 1 spire unit if you want more offense, or just keep buying the riflemen to get impenetrable defense (for this level range). Note that 6 offense is nothing to sneeze at @ this level also.

5) Get spire to level 7 giving access to the 11/32 unit.

After this I'm not sure yet. I can either upgrade spire to 10 to get the 33/17 unit, or can just wait for the breeding den. It's likely I can just wait for the breeding den. If I want offense, the gnomish lab is always there, but I'd rather just pad my defense and wait for breeding den I think. I doubt anything can break through a full army of 11/32's.

For this to work, I'll really need to save my money entirely for units and farm the highest AD/loot per exp spots. These are generally the mob you can 1-shot with the lowest EXp on the furthest map possible. If you have to go back 4-5 maps, then you can just fight the lowest exp 2-shot on the farthest map possible, which is almost always just the weakest unit on your farthest map.

It's working decent so far. I haven't camped for 1 minute so far, and am at level 32 or so, with an atk/def nearly double anything I've seen so far. I'm pretty safe even from people with 33% more allies than I have. I think most of that is due to the way I maximize farm for loot/exp. I doubt the average person even considers this, and just fights the hardest mob on the hardest map (or just blindly follow quests).

Free, you're not that far behind me in size... Only 3 more pieces to get to #20... Still sticking around Lvl 10 though... Trying like h-e-doublehockeysticks to not level too quickly... Just passed 400 wins (w only 12 losses) too!

I had some losses pile up while going crazy on some guys with unvaulted gold and messing around with some top gem armies :)

Will camp out on level 30 waiting for awhile - I screwed up building the shipyard and that slowed me down. Trying to construct some lovely new buildings.. hehehe
