Your poll is redundant.. you can easily split it in 2 brakets under 5000G and cover just 20% of gold spenders....
You need a plit at least 0-500, 500-3000, 3000-8000 or something like that.
80% or normal gold spenders spent more than 10000 at least.. anything else wont get you too far.

5000 Overlord is a mere low level spender ;)

I spent $8 b/c when I started looking at the Body Guard Towers I realized how much superior they were to the other early defense buildings. It's really ridiculous how much better they are. I had been trying to get Funzio to give me credit for a promotional offer that would have gotten me 129 gold, and at the time I was leveling up so fast that I couldn't up my defense fast enough to deter all the people I was pissing off from robbing. I hated buying the gold. I've actually spent as much of it by accident as I have on purpose, but I do have two BG towers, two ice cream parlors, and two tobacco/smoke stores. I've signed up for a number of the promotional things, but I've only received gold credit for about 60% of what I signed up for. The promos are a 3rd party company and no one will help when the links don't work, I have learned.

My bad it's 160 now.

O_O that's still 1500 dollars or more real money. 10ok is 7000 bucks.

Some of you have actually spent $7,000+ (USD) on this game?

I hope you have disposable incomes, because they have rehab centers for most people with those spending habits.

Agreed. Even with money to burn I can't imagine how this can be possible?!?!?!

Gambling, for instance, would be a better choice...at least you have a chance of walking away with something.

$7K+, or a Payam 50K+, is...(speechless here)

I remember seeing a slot game that has mania and sloto in its name. You could wait for the free coins, or you could buy coins. $100 for a hundred thousand coins or something. I could not believe, for the life of me, why someone would play a slot machine game...for real money...that doesn't pay out?!?!?! Why not play a real slot machine, for real money?

insanity. What ever happened to paying $4.99 for a phone game, and $65 for a PC game?

I'm at a loss here.

I am not trying to be insulting to those who spend money on gold, knock yourselves out, but I consider this game simply unaffordable. It's not worth spending $5 because you get nothing for that amount. I'll snag gold through the free options to make sure Funzio gets their money. These games should not be free, the world simply does not work that way and anyone that thinks Funzio shouldn't be charging for this game (or any devel for any game) are kidding themselves.

Yeah this poll kinda needs to be reconfigured. In all case you are going to get large spenders like in thousands and low spenders like in hundreds and very few in between. I know players who spend a couple grands on each event and when they win the final prize they buy crates with the rest.

Ive blown a few bob, but then I share trade. What I have spent on this game was made in one trade a few months ago. I could easily challenge xenoke, most of the Indians and koralene for stats but can't be bothered, need to focus on the real world a bit more.

I did see someone with 500 Hellfire missles recently, bloody hell.

People blow hundreds on a night out in a bar.
People blow loads of cash on cigs
People blow money trying to outbid each other on ebay for stuff they dont need.
People blow money on hookers

Most of it is a waste except for the hookers :o

I haven't bought any gold and don't plan on it.

Buying gold is like cheating, it gives you an unfair advantage above other players. When I look at my news feed and see red text I usually check out the person’s hood as it is pretty seldom that I am beat. Almost every single time, that person is a gold buyer. It's not impressive to be beat by someone who throws hundreds of dollars at a game. On the other hand, when I am beat by someone who doesn’t have gold items, I am impressed and that individual gets my kudos. They didn’t beat me because they waste money on virtual goods, they beat me because they out planned and out strategized me.

Just my two cents.

Johnny70

this cracks me up every time I see it how can people think a game like this can survive without people who buy gold? instead of being haters you should be thanking that guy who comes and beats you with his/her gold item stats because without them there is no game period. do you see advertising all over the game? do you want to? how do you think the hardware and man power to run this game gets paid for? the people who spend money for real on here obviously do have disposable incomes and you should be happy they do instead of being a jealous hater about it... if you think gold buyers are cheaters you need to open your eyes and look around because the people who buy gold stats are about the only ones doing anything about the cheaters in this game and thats my over $5000.00 worth keep the change its two cents.

+1 that Funzio HAS to be paid in one way or another.
-1 on $5000 spent on a video game that has zero hardware and zero chance for a return on investment.

Gold buyers are not cheats.

I would accept ads in the game just to save you big spenders from yourselves.

I hate to admit I fell prey to Funzio's (criminally genius) diminishing odds event scam the first time around. Stuck on 9 diamonds, I woke up at 1 AM the last night of the lockbox event, begrudgingly bought $20 and frantically reset the timer until I got #10 with ~100 gold to spare. To be honest at the time I was utterly ashamed and a bit sickened to have caved in and wasted that amount of money on a ******* iPhone game. Then I got on the forum and realized I had gotten off relatively cheap compared to many. Since then it's been TapJoy only.

I've heard all of the rationalizations for spending vast amounts of RM and for me, none are compelling. Don't get me wrong: CC is a great iOS game and has certainly kept my interest much longer than most. But ultimately it's just that and in a few short years (or even months at this rate) it will be yet another distraction that has faded into the past.

Of course there is disposable income regardless of your age... just depends on how much you make. :)

The poll is flawed as I spend nothing, but dont believe this has to be a free game. Obviously the developers need to get paid somehow, and if instead of annoying advertising people do it voluntarily, then awesome. I dont have particularly great stats, but dont get too bothered by gold players, and in fact probably get more out of robbing and attacking the weaker gold players than i lose from the strong ones.

tower

Correction, depends on priorities. I don't consider a holiday with my three daughters "disposing income", althought I supposed it could be called that. Stick to assets and investments...won't be as strong in CC but at least you won't be kicking yourself in the years to come, lol. $5000 isn't a big deal in the long run, the $300K boast is about the biggest regret that (alleged) person would have in their future.

And here I am, in the middle of the day when I should be working...watching the forum and collecting on my buildings...if I consider the time I'm wasting, $5K is a drop in the bucket...I'd say too bad for my employer, but that's me...so I'm screwing myself pointing out that people are screwing themselves.

People spend large sums to get that car that simply has 100 hp more then the old one.
People spend money on hookers while they have a lovely wife at home.
People spend money on alcohol in bars, getting home drunk, beating their kids.
And some people spend money on a game, cause it entertains them. Gives them some minutes to unwind from whatever they do for a living.

Who are you to judge?

Yes, not using all of those equally excellent avenues of spending money and releasing tension completely justify spending it all in a game.

Point well taken Sir, I shall stop beating my kids and hiring hookers immediately and will move on to more peaceful conduits for all this pent up tension. Long live the American dream!

I almost succumbed to the temptation of buying gold for the first time during the fight event but begrudgingly decided not to open that dam. (fortunately still was able to squeeze in the top 500).

Nothing against gold players as they are free to spend their $$ as they please but i just can't seem to justify at least for myself dropping $$ on a game i prob won't be playing in a few months.

What will everyone do when funzio shuts down their servers??? I will laugh my ass off!!! It's happens to so many other games, but I guess it is online gambling and there are no guarantees. The only crappy thing is at least when you do a state lottery you can win some $$ back!! Think of all those people that will spend big money on gold then next time they go to open and it tells them server has been shut down!! I've spent about $15 just to refill stamina and energy. Tapjoy all the rest of the way!!! But hey like others have said what ever you want to do with your $$ is your call. If I was rich I would be a gold whore as well!!! I can't believe how much some of you have spent on gold for this game, which at the end of the day, is nothing more than a variation of Sim City. The idea of PVP is misleading because there's absolutely no skill involved. The idea of "combat" is based solely on stats, which people can attain through time and/or money (gold). Even then, the game's random number algorithms determine the outcome of a fight or robbery with no input needed whatsoever from the player other than pressing a button.

At least in real RPGs like World of Warcraft or Starcraft, a player's skill can overcome whatever deficiencies in stats they may have against their opponent. This provides even newer players with the chance to "win".

This is like arguing that checkers is a stupid game because you don't use the red squares on the board. Yes... that is the way the game works. If we were looking for something different, we'd play a different game. Yes, people spend way too much money on it, but I've seen friends drop $1000 in a strip club in one night, and FAR more than that in casinos. As long as its their own money, they're legally competent to spend it, and they're not being defrauded, it's their business.

Doesn't mean we can't laugh about it, though.

Don't get me wrong, it's not my money so I couldn't care less what others do with theirs. I just can't grasp what the appeal of this game is that people will spend thousands of dollars on it. In real RPGs, which I've played a ton of, the people who typically gain notoriety or "respect" if you will, are those who establish themselves as being skillful players. In this game, the more well known players are those who post frequently on these forums or those who have demonstrated that they've spent an inordinate amount of time and/or money building up their Sim City, I mean Crime City. :p

And some people argue that playing game is a time waste , why would people play any games , since time is money , every hour spent on entertainement is time wasted .
sadly entertainement is needed , if people have fun and want to do stuff , and can afford it , let them .

any money invested into the economy finds it self back to you in one way or another .
if people don't spent money keep it all on the bank , what use is it ?
Banks are spending the money anyway to make themself richer , so I raher spent it meself .
Even if it is meaningless :p , atleast I did it , nobody else .
Don't say the bank always invest your money wisely , cause if they did we wouldn't be in this mess would we ?

Do you remember how Arena gear worked when WoW came out? To get the top gear you had to be ranked General for 3 or 4 weeks which required probably 110 hours a week of PVPing. Every game is different and has different requirements. Back then people complained about how could you spend so much time just trying to get the gear? Each game has something different which makes it appealing. Sure this game requires no skill to PVP but I am sure many people enjoy that because it really doesn't have to be a time drain. If you want to throw money at it to be better so be it. The business concept is good and if you are older with a family and a budget that could be spent on gold if it makes you happy then do it.

I think you're confusing the battlegrounds rewards with the Arena gear. I used to be a Grand Marshall from the battlegrounds and got the Gladiator rewards from the Arenas. To be Grand Marshall, yes you had to devote a lot of time in pvping (less if you had a competent group you pvp'd with regularly), but the rewards you got for doing so didn't offer any significant advantage with respect to the PVE side of the game. The PVP rewards had more stam with less damage stats. WoW fixed that time requirement by introducing arenas in which casual players could obtain gear by playing a minimal number of games per week. But again, the gear obtained through arenas (PVP) didn't offer stats beneficial to PVE. Whatever the case, players obtained a certain level of achievement in WoW regardless of whether they focused on the PVP aspect or the PVE.

My point is that in this game, the idea of "PVP" is misleading. As for not being a time drain, I'd be interested to hear how many casual players were able to get the Black Widow gun.

I refrained from posting a wall of text but I also wanted to add: if you didn't grow up on an Xbox / PS3 or FPS games on a computer sure everybody says it only costs $60 but the amount of time you have to put in to actually feel like you are "good" can be immense. (As much as I tried I never could get the hang of drop shooting ) For me time equals money and I would rather have more time so I can spend money and save time.

I probably play Crime City more aggressively than most because I am with my ipad 24/7 and sitting behind a desk at a computer for most of the day. I have the black widow, and with 50 stamina it really only involved logging in every 2.5 hours for 5 minutes to dump stamina attacking anyone not too beat up.

The real trick was doing that through the night. I didn't set an alarm, but I *did* have my ipad sitting next to the bed for when the baby woke me up :)

Exactly battlegrounds I forgot what it was called before the Arena and yes Grand Marshal was the rank that was insane. The problem is that you think spending money on this game is crazy when all I say is that I think many people in this game think spending as much time in a game is crazy. We would trade time for money if it keeps us entertained. (The Arena drove me nuts as well and how could I kick my older brother 40 + at that point off my team to try and be better :-)

If you had 25 stam and you got the Black Widow it could have been a time drain. If you had 70 + stam all you had to do was use all your stam every 3 + hours.

I do agree the concept of PVP isn't what we all expected but I haven't had any interest in going back to the old vision of PVP for the last 8 months or so.

I guess it comes down to what people consider entertainment. For me, when I play a game involving other players, I expect there to be some degree of skill involved in PVP. I have nothing against people spending money to play games, heck I did it for years when I played WoW but in that game, you were paying for a subscription which helped fund future content. Money didn't buy you significant advantages over other players and like I said, there were means of being competitive and obtaining gear through skill, even for the casual gamer. However, as a father of two young children and as a result of long work hours, I simply didn't have the time anymore to play which is why I sold my WoW account and quit.

To be honest, I don't even remember what compelled me to download and try out Crime City in the first place but I figured it would be a casual game to play on the ipad whenever I had free time. Unfortunately, with the nerfing ofthe M4A1s and the introduction of crates, box events, etc., it became clear that those who were willing to spend real life money on this game would have significant advantages over other players.

Let me ask you this, once you hit level 200, what more is there to do in the game? Keep collecting money and building your hood until you're making a gazillion dollars per hour? All for what? Attack/rob other players until you've gathered enough RP to have 500 of every top RP item?

Like I said, I have nothing againt people spending money on gaming, I just don't understand why someone would spend real money on this game however. To each their own I suppose.

By the time I hit 200 they will come out with 300. The same way WoW went from level 65 to 75 etc... They will change events, create leaderboards, add new features who knows. The one thing I know is that yes WoW was hard to give up but when I started having children it made it easier but now that I have a fixed sunk cost of cold hard cash I don't want this to end...

If you're trying to compete against gold spenders, get ready to spend gold. Im a free player at level 161, and I get pounded almost constantly by gold players. So what? I look at them more like a force of nature to be weathered than as any sort of actual competition. They're playing an entirely different game than I am. If you can't deal with that and you're not willing to shell out thousands to compete with people whose stats are 100k/100k, you might as well quit.

In the end, there are no winners. Just play if you like or move on.

I highly doubt that someone who can afford to spend $50k on a night out at a club would be the type to be playing Crime City. Actually no, spending money on a game, whether it be for the game itself or a subscription is one thing (which I've done myself). But I will never spend thousands of dollars for virtual weapons in a mobile device game which at the end of the day provide nothing of value. At least in games like WoW, whatever achievements attained reflected at least some semblance of skill which a gamer could be proud of. In contrast, what has a person playing Crime City who has spent thousands of dollars to obtain the ZOMG ultimate hood with gold-purchased buildings and weapons achieved?

P.S. I HAVE spent tons of money going out and traveling (before I had kids :( ) and only a loser as you call it would fail to see how that is money better spent than buying some uber gold weapon.

that some people can afford the luxury ! to do WTF they want anywhere anytime anyplace .
Is there own problem , none of your concern or condemning needed .
infact you enter a free to play game , knowing your own ods , I have nothing against subscription games majority I have played , but telling that people are stupid for investing into entertainment that is gone in time .

Yeah well I can also say people are in general stupid for even trying to entertain them , when they know they have other things to do , see difference between old gamers and young new gamers is !

1 old gamers know when to call it quits or admit defeat and move on . it is a game !

I don't understand how you people can judge how other people spend their money....Koralene was open enough to tell us how much she has spent on this game and you ridicule her...I know I heard her talk about going to Vegas and then Paris during the Fight Event, so my guess is she is living a pretty full life outside of this game and probably has a decent amount of disposable income.

When I was younger I would $10k with me to go to casino, when I made only $100k/year, now I make quite a bit more, yet I bring less to the casino when I do go because I value get the same rush at the tables with less money on the line. There is no rule as to what amount makes the game or any experience worth it, so what applies to you does not apply to anyone else.

First of all, I never even mentioned Koralene. I would gander that you're coming to her defense because she's female? What about Payam who apparently spent $50k on this game? Nevertheless, I wasn't ridiculing people for spending money on this game. If you read my trail of comments in this thread, I said they're free to do whatever they want with their money. I was pointing out the difference in spending real money on this game as opposed to other games such as WoW which are subscription based. I'm all for the developers of games being compensated for their work.

What I don't understand, and I wasn't trying to come off condescending in this open-ended question, is what does someone who spends thousands of dollars on this game get out of it? Do they consider it an "achievement" that they spent real money to obtain better buildings and/or better weapons?

Dipstik

Payam answered that question in his "AMA" thread. He has the money, he likes the game, he likes winning more than losing.

This games been out for a long time, its not hard to believe that people have spent over 5k on here. It's easy to say it's stupid to spend that kind of money on here when you're making minimum wage, but for some people that kind of moneys nothing to them. It's just a decent watch or a nice suit.

I havent spent anything and dont intend to. I can't really justify spending it and would rather spend it elsewhere. The guys behind the game know how to squeeze money out of players via promotions and the way the game works. That is their job! Its a shame that there isnt a game for non gold players though.

I was going to be more critical of spenders and I must say some people have spent a lot from what ive read. However, the arguments put forward are true. Its a form of entertainment and people spend money on all sorts of stupid stuff let alone a game. If you can afford it and others arent suffering as a result (i.e. your kids go without food or you hold up a real bank to get more funds) then theres no problem I guess.

I can barely afford to pay my bills. Actually, I have no way of paying my bills for the next two months. I'm facing eviction, car repo, and I'll end up homeless for a couple months. And there are people spending thousands of dollars on this game???
That makes me realize how unfair this world is.:(

Thanks for the chuckle.

Edit: What device are you playing on btw?

Yup lol.
There are people starving but we'd rather pay for more favourable odds in a random number generator than help them. :)

That is really sad Brianch :(

The point of the game is to abandon that part of reality though... don't compete with the gold spenders and they probably won't compete with you... so don't worry about that...

and go look for work!!!!! Don't just sit there and sulk about it...

Back in the 80s we used to look for the homeless people with name brand sneakers... These days it's apparently smartphones. Please stop complaining about how unfair the world is.

I am actually a full-time employee. However, things happen in life sometimes (like an illness). When you can't work due to an illness and take a leave of absence it takes a couple months to start getting paid again.
And I wasn't sulking. I was simply wondering what other players think.

And Dipstick - I'm not a homeless person with a smartphone. I'm a long time employee at a great job. Like I said, sometimes sickness happens. And I don't remember asking for pity or help. I was wondering how people think. I guess some simply don't.

But thanks for the rude reply. I hope your day becomes more positive.

Ummm SK's post was sympathetic. I was GOING to go for "rude," but I didn't want to get banned so I went with sarcasm. Your post deserved ridicule, though.

Then stop playing CC , you don't create miracles or beter situations , by escaping realities .
You either embrace it or work out a solution , no matter how hard it is .
Here is fact , if you know those things are coming , why seek escapisme , seek help swallow the pride,
and seek help .

Before you are totally down and have to climb a mountain instead of a hill , yeah it is hard going .
But everything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger .

I'm sure you meant well, but you aren't familiar with my situation. I don't use CC to to escape reality, I use it to entertain myself.
It's sad you can't make a simple statement and pick people's minds about why they buy gold. I know a lot of you are simply being sarcastic. I love sarcasm, and appreciate the responses.

Love, peace, and I'm headed towards your hood next, so look out.

In Australian iTunes it costs 109$ aud for 1 vault of gold.
I was curious as to how much it costs for a vault of gold from other country's, if there's any difference?
I know we pay up to 2.39aud just for 1 song, and I've heard American iTunes only charge 1.19usd! And our dollar is higher!

I will spend more than a single smallest buy, and only to get the 5 energy/min weapon, when they supply me with a gold confirmation window. I'm sick of desperately trying to not misspend while saving up.

The problem with buying gold is you want to buy more as you progress in the game. When i started i thought i would never buy Gold and i bought first one yesterday to for my church and was happy and now since i can't stop thinking buy some more and i am really trying but once you start buying gold you want buy more it's like a drug. :(. DAMN Gree.
