View Full Version : EQUIPMENT in KA – Free players food for thought

Kiss Of Death
04-04-2013, 11:51 PM
Ok first up I am a GEM player but I also have a camping account which is my effort of a 1005 free player account. What I am posting here is based however on viewing the inventories of so so many free and even GEM players who are thousands of Attack and Defense points down form where they should be!

Some key things to remember:
A pure Free army (Gold only) would have when 1500 dragons are made:
75% attack from Dragins 25% from Equip
60.5% Defense from Dragons, 39.5% from Equip
This is then modified by PvE loot and event prizes
This assumes 1500 Hawkslayer Ar, Banneret Plate, Heavy Battleaxes, Mailcrushers, Dragons

Fighting Big Boss for rewards...
RAW attacks scores + Armour Attack + Weapons Attack scores + 10x Attack Skill = Gold hit
The Boost Buildings DO NOT ADD TO ATTACK VALUE! When attacking a boss and are only used in PVP

So many players undervalue the high cost of equipment and focus on units, units that die... units that could be at a minimum +35 attack and +46 defense each!

Assume you are a pure free player, then you’ll want the most powerful free play character you can. To achieve that you need a high monster strength to progress LTQ and PvE as much as possible to gain units and equipment for free that can be very powerful. But you’ll also want an attack score as high as possible to beat the bosses and also reduce the amount of losses you take.

Answer is equipment.

For those of you like me who actually develope spreadsheets that break down your RAW stats and also list your weapons and armour showing what is actually being used in defense and attack, you’ll discover the shocking reality that most of your troops are fielding items with 1-2 attack and defense each! Given they should be eventually up to a minimum of +35/+46 each, relying on only PvE to give you 1500 decent weapons and armour is insane! So what have I done with my accounts that seems to provide a steady regular growth in stats, stats that aren’t impacted by casualties... is but at first 100 of every item in Army and Hero and work my way up... bolstered by LTQ and PvE drops the stats increase nicely but don’t fool yourself that buying basic items won’t boost you! They will and if you take the time to do it on a spreadsheet you will be amazed that even medium equipment for gold will jump your stats PERMANENTLY by several points for a long time to come.

Thank you for good article, Kiss of Death. In a long time, I actually bought equipment and to my suprise, Heavy Battleaxe increases my 200K´ish stats by 18/11 and Banneret Plate 17/18. Time to upgrade low-level buildings and buy some new clothes for the army, thanks for the reminder of gear in store. :)

Maybe you can't read? Either way no one cares

Either way, OP is just stating the obvious in some bits and providing terrible advice in other bits.

Thanks for the info. It's very good advice and I always make sure I have at least the minimum pieces of armor/weapons so my guys are bringing something to the fight. Even if it's only 2-4 points.

As an empiricist, I like to test things out - so give me your IGN and level, then I can discover which theory holds up best.

WOW! This is what is wrong with the forums. You complain about not reading because it's too long. Then don't comment! let KOD thread be useful to those that want a little help! She has provided many valuable calcs before in the past and while not all of them i always agree with i would rather have someone trying to help the community than simply coming in and being to lazy to help. How do you know she provided terrible advice if you DIDNT READ IT.

Ignorance. now go troll somewhere else.

If you want to provide something constructive then point out any potential flaws in her advice.

Seriously, he's just trolling you. Ignore him.

And as usual, KoD, awesome, just awesome. Thanks for your work.

I'll admit a few people on these forums make insightful threads from time to time with information that is far more than surface-deep. This thread however is littered with superfluous information. If you can't see through this garbage, then it's time you see a doctor. THERE ARE DOCTORS IN THIS WORLD FOR A REASON PEOPLE!

Thanks for the tip. I've been slowly buying hawkslayer, emphasis on slowly. You're right that I may be better off loading up on mid-range gear first.

question - why spend gold on items when you can farm them on all maps?

I suppose if you're camping and stuck on lower level maps it might make sense, but if you're camping, aren't you using the majority of your gold for expensive bldg. upgrades?

with the LTQs in play now, hero strength matters big time, and one of the ways to boost hero strength is to master all maps through lvl 4 to get that bonus skill pt... by mastering as many maps as you can, you'll naturally get weapon/armor drops, and at some point, those item drops are better than anything you can buy in the store...

and now with guilds, you have another option to spend that money - to the guild for bonuses...

to each his own, and I can see that at lower levels there is perhaps a benefit to buying items in the short run, but imo, in the long run it makes more sense to spend your gold only on bldgs. and dragons (doing it over again, with the current layout, I wouldn't upgrade any other unit bldg. except as required for PvE on maps, and instead upgrade the BD exclusively), and/or giving it to your guild, and farming maps as much as possible to get items.

Great advice KoD. It's worked well for me for a year now.
Assuming a zero starting point, 4 dragons is 240 defense points. 325 adept robes for the same cost is 1,625 points. I lost 100+ Dragons in the war. None of my armour died.

I wish they raise the stats on weapons and armor. The best weapons and armor that gold can buy cost more than a dragon, the premium for having indestructible equipment is far too high.

No, I'm answering your question. Level difference is a factor in conquest points, so buying can be more beneficial than farming maps. But, please go ahead.

level difference doesn't matter if you can't defeat the person in battle.

that's why I asked the question in the first place.

the answer is that buying items benefits campers since they aren't farming and thus aren't getting items for free.

for those who are actively playing and participating in the LTQs, imo it's better to farm for items instead of buying them

Can't argue with the mass of blind followers on this forum. They give credit only to those that have the "prestige" from gem spending. Licking @$$ is fun yes?

Two things to note here, Clay01 :

1) By mastering all maps to lvl 4 you in turn make all the LTEs more difficult to do. Check out your mobs' hp on a lvl 4 mastered mp vs a lvl 1 or 2. You will be astounded.

2) Attack/level ratio is absolutely key in the guild wars/battles. 2k+/lvl is the sweet spot, of course. If you are high lvl and medium stats, you will be a punching bag. If you are low level and high stats, not only do you yield crap payout for those who hit you, but you also maximize payout on those you hit. Lower level players with high stats (let's loosely term them "campers") net 350+/hit CPs on avg during wars.

Finally, LTEs are a leveling nightmare. Low level players gain 40k stats, but also 4 lvls per LTE. Not worth the battle pool change alone, honestly. Once you get past 112, with KA's new battle pool algo you will be seeing mid 120s lvl whales who love to eat you and your cupid bow for breakfast.

In summary, I wish I could hang out in the mid 120s forever, as it nets me 1mil/day in raiding and I will be a much more valuable asset to my guild there too in coming wars.

580 Thaumaturge Robes and rising. At 250k stats they still add 9/16. Ah such a long way to go and so little gold ...

yes, I realize all of those things

and hindsight is always 20-20

all of us in the 100's can look back and say, jeez, if I knew that Gree(d) was going to do that, then I would have done that...

and I guess I don't consider players in the 50-100 range campers, although they likely were campers at some point.

I know the guild pt system, but I cant turn back the clock on how I've played the game thus far and become a lvl 70 player again, lol. and my point there was that it doesn't matter what the level difference is if the attack fails. hopefully the guild picks your target correctly and thus it does matter...

my point is that buying items can be beneficial for the right player, but not for all.

I wish I could go back to the 120's... ahhhh I remember those days well. tons of crappy stats, tons of players over vault

That is an excellent illustration.

I was going directly for most expensive equipemnt, but I might allocate a bit of my daily collections to adept robes, as a quick win, even if effects are temporary only.

Meh. Since you can't lose the armor I don't understand why you'd go with anything cheaper. That smacks of instant gratification, and when you eventually need to buy the expensive ones you'll be cursing every time you see a cheap one in your inventory. I see the cheap ones as bandages until you can afford the good ones. Just my two cents, I normally take the long view. So what if it takes me six months to buy them all, it's not like I'm playing an iPhone game because I have anything better to do. Besides, once you have dragons there's nothing else the money is good for anyway. And before you tell me guild donations that's a scale error. It will cost you roughly 100 million to equip your army with the very best, and roughly 1 billion gold to purchase all the bonuses. Not even a drop in the bucket. Just do your regular donation and buy a/w to make yourself more valuable in the wars. People who don't like buying equipment probably failed math.

or I guess the problem this forum has with rude idiots? Sparkle if you refer to people following me I've always been someone to post topics to raise ideas and different views. Credit to those who try despite ignorant people perhaps such as yourself who have high self opinions and fail to realise there are many young players here trying to get their heads around th various tactics. The more opinions they can read that are a hell of a lot more constructive than your ignorant ones, the better they will be for it in working through the various ideas and forming their own final direction. I'd call you Matt before Sparkle with your negative comments. KoD

And being able to steadily increase your stats is not a waste of gold... Units that die and need constant replacing is a waste but we all need to do it. Ouch. I didn't mean that to sound boastful, but I meant that every penny you spend now is thrown away, equipment cannot die. It's actually the opposite of short sighted, IMHO. It's the extremely long view. If it takes you years it's because your IPH is too low. And ignore sparckle, he's butt hurt that they named a monster in this LTQ after him. I believe it's the 3/10 monster.

And the math comment was directed at those who don't like to purchase any equipment at all. "But I can just farm better!" Yeah, in 377584992$575$ years.

OT, I mainly farm. I think asome of this decision is game dependant. At lower levels I primarily bought, mid levels a mixture of both and now at 100+, mainly farm. Do I have enough armour and weapons to completely outfit my troops? No. Am I worried about the 400 shortfall? No. Statwise, the cheaper store bought armour is no longer worth my time (I could purchase the remaining 400 od today for what - 0.5% boost to stats?) and the expensive gear interferes with expensive upgrades and guild donations. So for me, its farming all the way. The one concern I have with this is xP gain, but I am not in a hurry, so I farm occasionally, quest occasionally and raid a heck of a lot...

Well you have quite the nasty bite. If I knew you were so hellish, I would have been more careful with you.

Some people hide their true sentiments in politeness. Others not so much. Ignorance is not being able to tell the two apart.
