Hi,
New to KA. Just wondering if monsters in PVE or quests have defence stats and if there are any random factors in attack / defense stats when fighting PVE?

example:
Hero Equipment Best Weapon: 15 attack
Hero Equipment Best Armour: 10 attack
Hero Strength: 10

As I understand it, my potential maximum attack in PVE for this hypothetical example would be 35 attack.. but this value ranges quite a bit depending what monster I am attacking. What is the biggest factor contributing to spikes in this? Is It the monsters defence? random multiplier?

Thanks in advance for any information or tips.

Hero strength is the biggest contributing factor determining how much damage you will do

I am not sure this is how redirecting is done, but check ths thread out. Especially the section on Hero Equipment breakdown. Was very helpful to me.

First of all, I'd like to say that nobody but Gree has the exact answers to your questions. The following is my studied opinion on how this works. Also, there's more information in the FAQ thread.

Sum your weapon and armor attack scores, and your HS. Subtract the monster defense (usually around 10) and then multiply by a random decimal number between 0.7 and 1.0 . That should account for 99% of all hits you do. It does for me.

Good analysis, as always.

Doesn't work for me...79+46+163 = 288 but I never really hit for over 214 ~= 74%. I think only your weapon and HS count: 79+163 = 242 max hit. I assume this because when you attack only your strongest attack units are used an when someone attacks you, only your strongest defense units are used - this fact is sated outright within the game.

Isn't it related to your class? As if some monsters have a certain vulnerability to some kind of class or weapon? That's a basic rule in RPG games.

Interesting, because I've hit for higher than that (barely) with significantly lower HS. Sorry about your luck. There may be a diminishing returns factor, but it is fairly accurate at lower levels.

First, do not try to equate PvE with PvP, you'll give yourself a headache.

Second, you forgot to subtract the Mob's defense score. If the Mob has a D of 50, then your 1.0 best attack is 238.

n00b question: where so you find mobs defense??

You can't. It's a hidden number that we are theorizing to account for the difference between the sum and the damage we see. And I can speak with certainty that the armor increases my damage, I just upgraded mine and saw my damage go up.

If instead of some theoretical monster defence you subtracted the standard damage the monster does when it hits back, would that solve the mystery number?

When I attack the Foerym Troll in Giant's Alley, using Champion's Orb (102), Emberfire Robe (44) and hero strength of 154 = 300, and subtract the 21 damage it does, I'm usually doing between 236 to 279 damage on a hit.

Interesting theory. I always just knew it was small and got larger against bosses. If they use the counterattack value that'd be easier to code too. Let me get some data and see if that works.

Edit: Took some data, looks like it's close on that map, but after I went up to the last map and hit one of those I hit for 238 once, and they hit back for 22, 260 is above the sum of my stats. I just assume a basic monster "defense" of 10, and a boss monster "defense" of 25. It seems to be at least mostly accurate. YMMV, especially at higher levels of HS.

I haven't tested since I got my new weapon, but I think my average is around 220 damage, and I've got just over 50 points less HS than you, same equipment. If it was easier to collate data I'm sure I could get a reasonable equation, but I'm beginning to wonder why I'm bothering, especially if they release another LTQ like this where your damage is all but irrelevant until the end of the quest.

Ok, I tried the same thing on my other kingdom

Shiver Bow - 76, Dragon Hunter Leathers - 44, Hero Strength - 117 = 237 (minus 21 on the Troll is 216)

Hits I got (ignoring the petty ones at the end when needed to finish off) were 204 + 162, 177 + 164, and 204 + 194. The troll has 398 health. That's still in line, but agree that more testing is required across the map range.

While I agree completely that different monsters have different defenses (which equates to different ranges of damage), don't discount the possibility that it may not be a simple subtraction, but perhaps a multiplication factor.

Oh I'm not. I just can't find anything resembling a linear relationship. It has to be exponential, but I just don't have enough data to get a line of best fit. I'd need at least 20 or 30 different people to provide all of their variables on several different monsters. I can't get that to fix broken boosts, much less to calculate Pve damage.
